Box Score 2 LONGMEADOW, Mass. The New England College softball team grinded out 35 hits in their doubleheader sweep over Bay Path University in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Shawnie Clark got the Pilgrims on the board in the top of the second inning when she cored
Daelyn Ross on an RBI groundout.
Izzabella Phelps doubled the lead when she drove in Gabriella Marcheschi on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. The Pilgrims did most of their damage in sixth inning when they capitalized on Wildcat mistakes.
Taylor Barbour stole third base but advanced home on a throwing error by the catcher. Ross hit a solo homerun that gave the Pilgrims a four run lead. Chanel Welch singled with the bases loaded which home Phelps but errors on the play allowed for the bases to clear and extend the lead to 7-0. Ross singled home Barbour before Clark tripled to score Ross in the top of the seventh and the Pilgrim scoring was capped off on a Rachel Senechal single, which scored Clark and gave NEC a 10-0 lead.
Emily Farone, Marcheschi, Barbour all made appearances in the pitching circle for NEC. They combined to strikeout eight batters while allowing three hits.
Game Two New England College 20, Bay Path University 0
Ross tallied her third RBI on the day when scored Barbour in the first inning. Alexa Scribner singled home Aibhlin O'Connor before Destiny Helmedach scored Welch on a sacrifice fly. The Pilgrims exploded for 17 runs in the top of the fourth inning. NEC tallied 15 hits and capitalized on three Wildcat errors to plate their 17 runs. Scribner, Senechal, and Helmedach came to the plate three times each in the inning.
Farone earned the shutout win, allowing just two hits while striking out six batters in the five inning game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-This was second and third meetings all-time between the two schools. The Pilgrims are now 3-0 against the Wildcats.
-Game two was the most runs scored by the Pilgrims in a single game since 2015.
