Softball Splits with Bay Path

LONGMEADOW, Mass.-The New England College softball team split a doubleheader at Bay Path University on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action, falling 3-2 in the opener before rallying for a 13-5 win in five innings in the nightcap.

NEC sits at 4-12 on the season.

GAME ONE: BAY PATH 3, NEC 2
Bay Path scored two runs on an error in the bottom of the third inning to tie the score at 2-2, and tacked on the eventual game-winner in the bottom of the fifth to pick up their fifth win of the season.

The Wildcats received a 2-for-4 effort from Lauren Vallee at the plate, by Lilly West was responsible for the single that drove in the game-winning run.

Pitcher Taylor Barbour (Bay Shore, N.Y.) scattered seven hits, two earned runs, a walk and eight strikeouts over six innings of work.

For Bay Path, Felicia Gaillerdetz also went the distance, scattering five hits, one earned run, two walks and seven strikeouts over seven innings.

GAME TWO: NEC 13, BAY PATH 5
The Pilgrims exploded for 12 hits and 13 runs in game two. Rachel Senechal (Killingwoth, Conn.), Destiny Helmedach (Middlefield, Conn.), Shawnie Clark (Holden, Mass.), and Alexa Scribner (Falmouth, Mass.) all had two hits apiece for NEC.

Both teams scored three runs each in the first inning, but NEC added another three runs in the second and exploded for seven runs in the top of the third to build a large lead. Bay Path scored single runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings, but NEC still led by eight runs at the end of five innings to end the game.

The Pilgrims had their monster third inning on the strength of six hits and three errors.

Emily Farone (Sandown, N.H.) earned the win for NEC, scattering nine hits, three earned runs, three walks and a strikeout over five innings of work. For Bay Path, Madison Goodhart went the distance and gave up only four earned runs despite the score.

The Pilgrims travel to the College of New Rochelle for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 8:45 am on Sunday morning.
