New England College Women’s Ice Hockey Head Coach Mackenzie Meegan has announced the hiring of Bailey Coons as the new Women’s Ice Hockey Graduate Assistant in June of 2021.
Coons come to New England College after spending this past year as a volunteer coach for the U12 Hampton Roads Whalers of the CBHL, where she taught youth hockey. Prior to the Whalers, Coons was the House and Recreation League Director with the U16 Potomac Patriots.
"I am thrilled to have Bailey join the Pilgrim family! Bailey has a strong appreciation and understanding for what it takes to be successful at the college level and will bring a tremendous amount of positive energy and experience on and off the ice,” said Meegan. “Her passion and knowledge for the game make her a great fit for our program here at NEC"
Coons graduated from Becker College in 2019, where she played four years on the Women’s Ice Hockey Team. In 99 career games, Coons picked up 15 assists, 51 career points, and a program-record 35 career goals.
"I want to thank the entire NEC Athletic Department and Mackenzie Meegan for giving me the opportunity to help coach the NEC Women's Hockey team, as well as give me the chance to grow as a coach and obtain a master's degree,” said Coons. “I'm dedicated and excited to help develop this team and see where the 21-22 season takes us!"
