Field Hockey Shuts Out Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The New England College Field Hockey team picked up a conference win on the road Wednesday night, defeating Elms College, 7-0, behind seven goals from six different goal scorers.

NEC took the lead just 36 seconds into the game when senior Conley Ladabouche (Barre, Vt.) found the back of the net for her first goal of the season and first since her freshman year. Junior Kennedy Overhoff (Whitefield, N.H.) earned the assist following a penalty corner insert.

The 'Grims continued to control the offensive momentum, recording six more shots on goal in the opening period. With just over two minutes remaining in the first, senior Kylee Henriquez (Methuen, Mass.) doubled the lead. Less than a minute later, senior Elliott Connor (Henniker, N.H.) added another goal to give NEC a 3-0 advantage heading into the second period.

The offensive pressure continued into the second period as NEC added four shots, with two saved by the Elms goalkeeper and two hitting the post. Overhoff eventually broke through, scoring off a pass from senior Kameryn Mazzulli (Waterford, Conn.) following another penalty corner. The 'Grims carried a 4-0 lead into halftime after outshooting the Blazers, 21-0.

NEC continued its offensive push coming out of halftime, as senior Kacey McClay (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) scored just 23 seconds into the third period off her own rebound. The 'Grims added eight more shots in the period, with four finding the target.

Senior Amy Philbin (Long Island, N.Y.) earned the win in goal after the third period before freshman Kaylanii Caple (San Diego, Calif.) entered to finish the game. Caple recorded one save in the fourth period.

McClay found the back of the net for the second time in the game in the fourth period, with Overhoff earning her second assist of the night to extend the lead to 6-0. With under four minutes remaining, senior Adelaide Kelly (Rockport, Maine) capped off the scoring with an assist from Henriquez, giving NEC the 7-0 victory.

McClay finished the night with five shots on goal, while freshman Claudia Dustin (Weare, N.H.) recorded six total shots, including three on goal.

The 'Grims will have a bye this weekend but will return to Don Melander Field on Friday, Oct. 2, for their Alumni Game at 7 p.m. NEC will then host Plymouth State University in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
