NEWTON, Mass. - The New England College women's soccer team hit the road Friday afternoon for a matchup with Lasell University, coming up short, 5-0.
The Lasers applied offensive pressure throughout the opening half, firing several shots on goal that were turned away by sophomore goalkeeper Estrella Michaelidis (Dedham, Mass.) and the 'Grims defense. Freshman Ava Hudson (Springvale, Maine) nearly answered in the final minutes, putting a shot on target that was saved by Lasell goalkeeper Regan Sullivan. Moments later, the Lasers found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Lasell came out of the break applying pressure, putting several shots on frame that were turned away by Michaelidis. The Lasers added two goals late in the half to extend their advantage to 3-0, as junior Michelina Follis (Saugus, Mass.) countered with back-to-back shots that were saved by Sullivan. Lasell added two more goals in the final minutes to secure the 5-0 win.
Michaelidis recorded a career-high 17 saves on the afternoon, while Sullivan made four saves for the Lasers.
The 'Grims return to action on Monday, September 28th, hosting Nichols College for a non-conference matchup at 7:00 PM on Don Melander Field.
