HENNIKER, N.H. - The New England College women's soccer team fell to the Regis College Pride, 5-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Tuesday evening at home.
Regis struck first in the opening frame, as Sienna Santiago found the back of the net to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead. The Pride continued to control possession and apply pressure in the midfield, eventually doubling their advantage late in the half. Regis kept the pressure on, firing shots that were stopped by sophomore goalkeeper Estrella Michaelidis (Dedham, Mass.). The Pride carried a 2-0 lead into the break.
Regis came out firing in the second half, immediately testing the NEC defense with a series of shots on frame, but Michaelidis continued to stand tall in net, making several saves. Junior Abbey Keyes (Dedham, Mass.) looked to get the 'Grims on the board, but her shot sailed just wide of the net. The Pride added their third goal of the evening minutes later to extend their advantage. Regis continued to apply pressure in the midfield and generate offensive pressure, but Michaelidis turned away several more shots as she finished the evening with 10 saves. Freshman Ava Hudson (Springvale, Maine) countered with a shot that just went wide of the net. The Pride added two more goals late in the half, securing the 5-0 victory.
The Pilgrims hit the road Saturday, traveling to Newton, Mass. to take on Lasell at Taylor Field with kickoff set for 12:00 PM.
