Seijas-Quea Breaks Program Assists Record in Saturday Split

HENNIKER, N.H. – Graduate setter Alexandra Seijas-Quea (Fort Myers, Fla.) became the new all-time assists leader in program history as part of a Saturday split against Regis and Massachusetts Maritime.

Seijas-Quea entered the day just 11 assists behind the program record that was set last season by her former teammate Aurora Gutierrez-Macias. She tacked on eight assists in the early match against Regis, before earning her 1,139th assist midway through the first set against Mass Maritime. She would total 20 assists against the Mariners, ending the day with 1,155 assists with well over half the season remaining.

The day's first match was a three-setter in favor of the Regis Pride (10-25, 18-25, 23-25) as the Pilgrims saw their three-game winning streak come to an end. Senior Tyra Kelly (Fresno, Calif.) and junior LisaRaye Placencio (Maricopa, Ariz.) each had six kills while senior Lily Cunanan (Woonsocket, R.I.) led all players with 13 digs.

The 'Grims bounced back in the final contest of the day's tri-match, downing Massachusetts Maritime in four sets (25-13, 25-13, 22-25, 25-19). NEC dominated defensively at the net, blocking nine shots to the Mariners' zero. The Pilgrims led just 18-17 in the fourth set before using a 6-0 run to run away with the victory.

Junior Emma Bernard (Chester, N.H.) matched Kelly with 11 kills to lead the team in the win, while Kelly also had a season-high six blocks. Seijas-Quea had an all-around great game on top of her record-breaking assists, adding 13 digs and five service aces.

The Pilgrims are back in action on Wednesday, September 23rd, as they host the University of Southern Maine at 6:00 PM in non-conference action.
