Pilgrims Fall in GNAC Road Battle at Regis

WESTON, MASS. - The New England College men's basketball team battled throughout but came up short in a 74-68 loss to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Regis College on Saturday afternoon.

The Pilgrims opened the contest strong, jumping out to a 5-2 lead behind a three-pointer from sophomore Josh Robie (Bethlehem, N.H.) and a jump shot by junior Aiden MacLeod (Wilmington, Mass.). Regis responded quickly, and the teams' traded leads through the early minutes. A three from sophomore Jayden Welch (Lynn, Mass.) extended NEC's advantage to 25-15 with 7:50 remaining, but the Pride answered with a 7-0 run to cut the margin to three. Regis closed the half on a decisive surge, outscoring the Pilgrims 13-3 over the final three minutes to take a 35-28 lead into the break.

Jamir Harvey opened the second half with five quick points to push the Pride's lead into double figures. The 'Grims answered as junior Mike Strazzeri (Chichester, N.H.) knocked down a three to pull NEC within single digits, but Regis quickly countered with a three from Aamyr Sullivan to restore momentum. Regis built its lead to as many as 16, but the Pilgrims continued to battle. Threes from senior Stravis Lutchman (Palmetto, Fla.) and junior Michael Hills (Baton Rouge, La.) sparked a rally, and a layup from sophomore Dimitri Sime (Lowell, Mass.) trimmed the deficit to five with 7:04 remaining. Despite the 'Grims late push, Regis connected on key shots down the stretch to hold off the comeback and secure the 74-68 victory.

Robie led the Pilgrims with 17 points, adding four rebounds and two assists. Sophomore Ryan Cuvier (Tewksbury, Mass.) chipped in 13 points, eight rebounds, and two assists, while senior Kenray Emadamerho (Manchester, N.H.) posted a team-high nine rebounds along with two assists and a steal.

The Pilgrims return to conference action on Wednesday, February 11th, hosting Norwich University at 7:00 PM in Bridges Gym.
