HENNIKER, N.H. - The New England College men's ice hockey team fell 4-0 to Middlebury College in a non-conference matchup Sunday night.
The Panthers applied early pressure to the team by completing five shots in the first five. Going on a powerplay in the 11th minute and winning a face off against the Panthers junior Jack Herron (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) and sophomore Egor Osipik (Minsk, Belarus) both fired two shots but were unable to find the net. Middlebury found the net first taking the lead with three minutes left in the first period which would take the two teams into the first intermission.
Going into the second, the two teams went back and forth. NEC was outshot 7 to 1 in the first six minutes. To extend their lead, Bobby May was able to find the goal, making their lead 2-0. Sophomore Vesse-Wincent Lampen (Espoo, Finland) was able to add two shots for the team, but after an NEC penalty allowed the Panthers to go on the powerplay. With two minutes left, they scored for the third time. To end the period, freshman Jack Brennan (Hingham, Mass.) had two blocked shots.
Middlebury came out in third attacking the net. Senior Danny Miscavish (Macomb, Mich.) made five saves to start the period. On another powerplay however, the Panthers added their last goal of the game, making the final score 4-0. Miscavish, faced 28 shots with 16 in the third.
The 'Grims start conference back up on the road at University of Southern Maine on January 9th.
