HENNIKER, N.H. - The VTSU-Castleton offense, who entered the night second in Little East Conference (LEC) in scoring, had everything working on Friday evening at Lee Clement Arena as they handed the Pilgrims a 7-1 conference loss.
The Spartans struck early with two goals in the first three minutes as Annika Nelson and Moa Carlsson gave the visitors a quick lead. Carlsson would score again in the third period to give Castleton a 4-0 advantage, part of a three-point night for Carlsson.
NEC sophomore Jamie Blondin (Oakville, Ont.) scored the lone goal for the 'Grims, firing a shot from close to the blue line for her fourth goal of the season late in the third period. Junior Sofia Gualtieri (Montreal, Que.) had the assist on the Pilgrim score.
Blondin's goal was sandwiched between two pairs of Castleton goals as the Spartans exploded for four goals in the final frame. VTSU-Castleton would improve to 4-5-0 in conference play with the 7-1 victory, while the 'Grims dropped to 3-6-0 with the defeat.
The Pilgrims and Spartans are back at it tomorrow at 3:00 PM at Lee Clement Arena. Prior to the game, NEC will recognize and celebrate their graduating seniors as part of senior day.
