HENNIKER, N.H. - The New England College field hockey team began their season with a 6-0 victory over the Anna Maria College AMCATS on Don Melander Field on Saturday night.
It took three minutes for the Pilgrims to strike first as junior Kacey McClay (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) buried one to take the lead for NEC as they never looked back.
Just over five minutes later, senior Cristina Manzi (Peapack, N.J.) found the back of the net as the Pilgrims kept the pressure on Anna Maria throughout the game.
Sophomore Kira Geddes (Bow, N.H.) and Manzi continued the offensive attack as AMCATS goalie Julianna Stanger wasn't able to stop senior Martina Hill (Abbot, Maine) as she helped the Pilgrims jump out to a 3-0 lead.
Junior Adelaide Kelly (Rockport, Maine) took a penalty corner where Manzi was able to get two shots off before sophomore Kennedy Overhoff (Whitefield, N.H.) snuck one past Stanger to send the game into the half at 4-0.
Junior Annie Raduazzo (Amherst, N.H.) started the second half in goal for the Pilgrims as it took just under three minutes for senior Isabella Marzano (Warwick, R.I.) to net the ball to extend the lead to five.
The Pilgrims made another goalie change as junior Amy Philbin (Long Island, N.Y.) entered the game for the fourth quarter where the Pilgrims dominated possession time as Geddes scored her first goal with the Pilgrims to finish the scoring.
Senior Makenzie Anderson (Antrim, N.H.) started the game in net for the Pilgrims as the NEC defense held the AMCATS to zero shots on goal.
