NEWTON, Mass. – The New England College men's lacrosse team saw their 2025 season come to an end with a 15-8 loss at top-seeded Lasell University in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at Grellier Field in Newton, Massachusetts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The 'Grims got on the board first when NEC junior midfielder Daniel Varga (Hampton, N.J.) – the GNAC's leader in points entering the day – scored his 56th goal of the season just 2:36 into the game to put the visitors up 1-0. But the Lasers would answer with a string of six unanswered goals, surging into the lead. Lasell would go into halftime leading 8-5 led by sophomore midfielder Jason Martin (Billerica, Mass.) who had two goals and five assists. NEC senior attacker Henri Pfeifle (Darien, Conn.) and Varga each had a pair of goals to lead the Pilgrims.
- Just 46 seconds into the third quarter, Varga would take a pass from Pfeifle and score his third goal of the game to pull the 'Grims to within two. But the Lasers would pull away in the second half, as NEC was never that close again.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- NEC sophomore goalkeeper Nate Finn (Norwood, Mass.) finished his season with 13 saves against the Lasers.
- Lasell senior goalkeeper Michael Catalano (Norwood, Mass.) finished with 12 stops for the Lasers.
- Varga finished with three goals while Pfeifle had two.
- NEC senior attacker Thomas Norton (Mansfield, Mass.) finished with a goal, an assist and a team-high four ground balls.
- Lasell senior attacker Ryan Stone (Granby, Conn.) led all players with four goals while adding one assist. Martin and freshman attacker Jack Condon (Atkinson, N.H.) both had three goals apiece.
