HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The game was scoreless for the first three minutes and twenty seconds before Regis' junior midfielder Nick Klein (Buxton, Maine) found the back of the net to give Regis the 1-0 advantage. Just seconds later, senior midfielder Cam Hebert (Plantation, Fla.) took the ball right off the faceoff and put it past Regis junior goalie Devin Hammon (Chicopee, Mass.) to tie it. Senior attacker Matt Daley (Plymouth, Mass.) added two more goals exactly a minute apart to give NEC the 3-1 lead. After goals from senior attacker Thomas Norton (Mansfield, Mass.) and junior midfielder Daniel Varga (Hampton, N.J.), the Pilgrims closed out the first quarter with a 5-3 lead.
  • After an assist in the first, senior attacker Henri Pfeifle (Darien, Conn.) scored to open the second before Norton scored three straight goals with Pfeifle assisting on two of them and Varga assisting the second. After another Pfeifle goal and a late score from sophomore attacker Duncan Fleming (St. Paul, Minn.), NEC had a five-goal advantage at the half.
  • Coming off the break, Pfeifle found the back of the net to open and close the scoring for the third quarter. Varga and sophomore midfielder Matt O'Rourke (Concord, N.H.) netted one as well to bring an eight-goal advantage into the fourth quarter.
  • Norton scored two more times as junior midfielder Nathan Hawkins (Salisbury, N.H.) netted his first of the game as a quiet fourth quarter saw only one goal from Regis as the Pilgrims held on to win 18-8.
