NEW LONDON, Conn. – The New England College baseball team, playing as the home team, won 8-1 at Mitchell College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field in New London, Connecticut.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The 'Grims got on the board first in the bottom of the second when NEC junior designated hitter Isaias Nuño (Rialto, Calif.) hit an RBI single to right center to drive in junior outfielder Harold Martinez (Wethersfield, Conn.), taking a 1-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the fourth, the Pilgrims took advantage of a throwing error by the Mariners as Martinez and junior right-fielder Ryan Cote (Goffstown, N.H.) came around to score, giving them a 3-0 lead.
- Already up 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Nuño stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and again singled to right center, clearing the bases as Cote, freshman third baseman Jaken Pellerin (Manchester, N.H.) and freshman centerfielder Ben Beaudoin (Meredith, N.H.) all crossed home plate to blow the game open at 6-1.
- In the bottom of the sixth, the 'Grims added two more as junior second baseman Yeri Ramos (Loiza, P.R.) hit an RBI single followed by Cote drawing a bases loaded walk.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- NEC senior pitcher Austin Hazzard (Weare, N.H.) went six innings on the mound for the win, allowing just three hits and one earned run.
- NEC graduate pitcher Stephen Dunham (Manchester, N.H.) picked up the save with three shutout innings.
- Cote went two-for-two at the plate with two walks.
- All nine of the Pilgrims' hits were singles.
- It was NEC's first win over Mitchell since a 2-1 home victory on April 27th, 2022.
