GENEVA, N.Y. – The New England College men's ice hockey team sustained a 3-1 loss at #1 Hobart College on Saturday afternoon at The Cooler in Geneva, New York in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

THE BASICS
Score: New England College 1, Hobart College 3
Records: Pilgrims 9-13-1, 8-9-1 NEHC | Statesmen 22-1-0, 17-1-0 NEHC

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Statesmen came out of the gates with two goals in the first period, continuing to show why they have been the top ranked team in the nation for the duration of the season. Hobart would grow their lead to 3-0 with another goal on a power play chance 7:13 into the second period. The goals came from Brandon Sacchetti (Montreal, Quebec), Tristan Fasig (Sherman, Conn.), and Chris Duclair (Montreal, Quebec).
  • The 'Grims came through with a goal of their own just two minutes later, with senior forward Jesper Tarkiainen (Naperville, Ill.) finding sophomore forward Gunnar Sibley (Monticello, Minn.) for the team's first score of the weekend against the formidable Hobart defense. Freshman defenseman Andrew Ralston (San Jose, Calif.) was also credited with an assist on the goal.
  • With 1:22 left in the third, still down 3-1, a Hobart penalty granted NEC a man-up situation for the final 82 seconds of the game; however, the top-ranked Statesmen would stand firm and would hold onto a 3-1 advantage as the final buzzer sounded.
