Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women’s Ice Hockey Comes Up Short in a 2–1 loss to Anna Maria.

HENNIKER, N.H. - New England College Women's Ice Hockey hosted non-conference Anna Maria on Saturday Afternoon at Lee Clement Arena in honor of the Julia Hockey Mazur Foundation on Hockey Fights Cancer Night..

The two offenses started hot with NEC placing the first shot by senior Kate Devlin (Walpole, Mass.). The two teams attacked on both sides of the ice with 13 shots; however, Anna Maria came out on top scoring the first goal from Quinn Bennett. NEC Quickly erased the deficit and tied the game after four shots in 20 seconds. Senior Meadow Gilchrist (Stamford, Conn.) was able to find the net with assists from junior Mae Lafferty (South Boston, Mass.) and Devlin. The period ended with a tie of 1-1.

The two teams continued to go back and forth for the first half of the second. On a powerplay for the 'Grims multiple shots were able to be executed but came up short. With a penalty called on the 'Grims allowed for the AMCATS to go on their own powerplay which led to them taking the lead with a goal at 10:24 by Laurn Sundgren. Which rounded out the second.

Sophomore Anna McGinty (Duxbury, Mass.) went into goal for the team to start the third period. She faced 13 shots in her 20 minutes on the ice. The two teams continued to battle for the remaining minutes, but NEC was unable to find the equalizer.

NEC outshot the AMCATS 31-29, averaging 10 shots a period. Women's Ice Hockey will travel to Buffalo to play the Bengals of Buffalo State on December 12th for a 3:00 start.
