Anna Maria Deals Men’s Ice Hockey Non-Conference Loss

AUBURN, Mass. - The New England College men's ice hockey team scored twice in the third period on Friday night against Anna Maria, but the damage had already been done as the AMCATS came away with a 5-2 victory in non-conference play from Horgan Arena in Auburn, Massachusetts.

The Pilgrims' first goal was scored by freshman Serafin Hoerl (Innsbruck, Austria) with 9:12 left in the third period as Hoerl netted his first collegiate goal. He was assisted by sophomore Egor Osipik (Minsk, Belarus) who leads the team with 10 points and junior Christophe Petit (Chelsea, Quebec).

With 1:05 left in the game, the Pilgrims struck again as sophomore Gus Cantwell (West St. Paul, Minn.) found the back of the net for the first time in his collegiate career, capitalizing off a power-play that had just five seconds remaining. Freshman Jack Ohlund (Lakeville, Minn.) was credited with the assist.

By the time the 'Grims scored midway through the third period, the AMCATS had built a 5-0 lead with a power-play goal in the first and a four-goal onslaught in the second. Dylan McElhinny and Owen Barrow combined for four of the hosts five goals as the duo each netted two a-piece.

Sophomore Anthony Beaulieu (Lawrence, Mass.) returned to start in net, making 25 saves over the first two periods while senior Danny Miscavish (Macomb, Mich.) stopped four shots in relief of Beaulieu in the third period.

The Pilgrims play their next game after the New Year as they host Manhattanville University for another non-conference matchup on Saturday, January 3rd at 6:00 PM.
