HENNIKER, N.H. - The New England College Women's Hockey team tackled Plymouth State at home 3-1 on Friday night.
On a power play at the start of the 16th minute, sophomore Jamie Blondin (Oakville, Ont.) scored her first goal of the season, assisted by senior Meadow Gilchrist (Stamford, Conn.). to capture a lead for the 'Grims. Rounding out the first Plymouth peppered sophomore Anna McGinty (Duxbury, Mass.) with six shots and saved four of them.
In the second period, the Panthers led with 23 shots on goal, with McGinty saving all 23.
The Panthers tied the game a little over the minute into the third scored by Katie Porrello. Winning the faceoff, NEC did not let Plymouth get comfortable and took the lead back from a goal by junior Samantha Babbitt (Weathersfield, Vt.) bringing the score 2-1. McGinty saved seven of 13 shots in the next nine minutes. After another faceoff won by the NEC a wide shot by senior Jordan Pond (Gardner, Mass.) gave them another chance to allow junior Alexis Hornsby (Atkinson, N.H.) her fourth goal of the season assisted by Pond and freshman Carol Lenig (El Paso, Tex.) halfway through the third, NEC lead 3-1. Which would be the final score.
With the win the team is now 3-4 and 3-2 at home. Before Thanksgiving break, the Pilgrims will travel to Nashua and play Rivier University at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, November 25th.
