Nyemah's Last Second Goal Stuns Albertus in 1-1 Draw

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The New England College men's soccer team squeaked out the narrowest of draws on Saturday, using a last second score to give the Pilgrims a 1-1 draw on the road against Albertus Magnus in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

The first half saw no scoring from either side as they brought a 0-0 stalemate into the halftime break. In the first half of play, Albertus Magnus outshot NEC, 5-3, and the Falcons had eight corner kicks to the Pilgrims' zero.

Albertus Magnus would finally break the stalemate in the 66th minute on a go-ahead goal from Bennett Walsh. The goal would be the only one given up by junior Lukas Tate (South Jordan, Utah) in his return from injury. He made a season-high 10 saves.

In the 79th minute, the Pilgrims came extremely close to netting the equalizer as a perfect cross from senior Wyatt Flibbert (Windham, Maine) led to a header from freshman Cooper Foster (Ashby, Mass.) that smashed off the top crossbar.

With under a minute to go, the Pilgrims were awarded a corner kick. The corner went long and rolled out of bounds off an Albertus deflection. Freshman Aubrey King (Blue Hill, Maine) quickly got the ball back into play with a long throw into the middle of the box with just 10 seconds remaining. Junior Erik Corbin (Marlborough, Mass.) put a quick touch on the ball ahead to freshman Eddy Nyemah (Manchester, N.H.) who, with just 6.8 seconds left on the clock, headed in his sixth goal of the season.

The late, last second goal gave the 'Grims their third draw of the season and second in conference play. They will take a 7-5-3 (3-4-2) record into their next game as the Pilgrims return home to host Rivier University on Tuesday, October 21st at the Don Melander Field for a 4:00 PM start.
