HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartans wasted little time before scoring on their home ice, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Aiden Robson (Kelowna, B.C.) just 1:54 into the game. Castleton would grow their lead to 2-0 with 13:25 left in the second period as Josef Vyvial (Kolin, Czech Republic) found the back of the net.
- Entering the third period trailing 2-0, the Pilgrims were in search of a quick goal, and a Spartans' penalty in the final seconds of the second period granted NEC a power-play chance to help them find it. Just 46 seconds into the third period, senior forward Jesper Tarkiainen (Naperville, Ill.) would get the 'Grims on the board with a one-timer snipe shot into the top-left corner of the Castleton net. Sophomore forward Jack Herron (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) made the pass to Tarkiainen and freshman defenseman Andrew Ralston (San Jose, Calif.) was credited with the secondary assist.
- NEC continued its' search for an equalizer deep into the third period but failed to break through. A Spartan penalty with 1:47 left in the game would provide a power-play opportunity for the 'Grims, and the pulling of the goaltender would make for a two-man advantage for the visitors; however, a loose puck around center ice would be won by Castleton's Trevor Castino (Woodland Hills, Calif.) who would send the puck into the empty net for the game-clinching goal.

- Tarkiainen scored a goal for a third consecutive game and the senior has recorded at least one point in eight straight. His linemate, Herron, has had six assists over his last three games.
