Men’s Ice Hockey Stops Skidmore in NEHC Action

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College men's ice hockey team won 3-1 over visiting Skidmore College on Friday evening at Lee Clement Arena in Henniker, New Hampshire in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

THE BASICS
Score:                  Skidmore 1, New England College 3
Records:              Pilgrims 3-10-1, 2-6-1 NEHC | Thoroughbreds 7-9-0, 5-6-0 NEHC

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The 'Grims got the jump on the heavily favored Thoroughbreds midway through the first period as – coming out of a faceoff - NEC senior defenseman Connor Lefkof (Frisco, Texas) found sophomore center Paul Waldhauser (Klagenfurt, Austria) who fed senior forward David Novotny (Boca Raton, Fla.) in front of the visitor's net for his team-leading sixth goal of the season with 10:41 to go in the opening frame. The Pilgrims would enter the first intermission still leading 1-0.
  • After a scoreless second period, NEC sophomore forward Jack Herron (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) – last year's New England College Athletics Department Rookie of the Year – gave the Pilgrims a much-needed insurance goal 5:35 into the third for his third goal of the season, assisted by senior forward Jesper Tarkiainen (Naperville, Ill.). It was Tarkiainen's team-leading tenth assist of the season, knotting him for fifth in the NEHC.
  • With 1:39 to go in the game, NEC sophomore forward Tyler Love (San Ramon, Calif.) capitalized on an empty Skidmore net to score his first career goal on an empty-netter, assisted by senior forward Wyatt Andres (Brainerd, Minn.).
  • One second away from securing the shutout, Skidmore freshman forward Evan Brown (Little Silver, N.J.)
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC freshman goaltender Anthony Beaulieu (Lawrence, Mass.) tallied 37 saves on the night for the Pilgrims.
  • Skidmore junior goaltender Joshua Seeley (Detroit, Mich.) posted 28 stops for the Thoroughbreds.
  • Total shots on goal were 38-31 in favor of Skidmore.
UP NEXT
  • NEC and Skidmore are back on the ice on Saturday when they battle again in a 4:00 p.m. matchup.
