PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The New England College men's soccer team suffered a narrow 2-1 loss to Plymouth State University on Friday afternoon at Panther Field in Plymouth, New Hampshire, in non-conference action.
THE BASICS
Score: New England College 1, Plymouth State 2
Records: Pilgrims 0-1 | 1-0 Panthers
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the 10th minute, an NEC turnover at midfield would immediately turn into a transition opportunity for Plymouth State, and senior forward Faisal Abdallah (Accra, Ghana) would receive a pass from sophomore defender Hunter Holland (Hampton, N.H.), beat the keeper, and put the Panthers up 1-0.
- The Pilgrims would look to score the equalizer in the 40th minute after a foul set up an NEC free kick about 30 yards from the opposition's net. Junior outside back Patrick Tewksbury (Londonderry, N.H.) would place the free kick perfectly in the center of the box and sophomore midfielder Jack LaBroad (East Kingston, N.H.) would flick a header past the PSU goalkeeper for his first career goal and tie the game up at 1-1.
- Just two minutes later, in the 42nd minute, Plymouth would turn defense into offense and provide Abdallah with another fast-break opportunity. Abdallah would beat NEC's last defender and put the ball in the back of the net for his second goal of the game.
- The second half would see a flurry of shots from both sides, but the final 45 minutes would go scoreless, and the 2-1 halftime score would remain through the final horn.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Plymouth senior goalkeeper Nicolas Cornejo Mora (Durham, N.H.) came away with three saves in the win.
