Sharks Take Two from Softball in GNAC Action

BRIGHTON, Mass. – The New England College softball team lost both ends of their double-header at Simmons University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Sunday at Daly Field in Brighton, Massachusetts. The Pilgrims went scoreless in the first game, 3-0, before losing a heart-breaker in game two, 4-3. NEC drops to 7-18 on the season, with a 1-7 record in GNAC action.

STANDOUTS
  • NEC freshman pitcher Wren Anhalt (Brooksville, Fla.) had a strong start in game one, going six innings while allowing just two earned runs with three strikeouts.
  • NEC junior pitcher Olivia Olson (North Haven, Conn.) got the ball in game two, striking out four Sharks in six innings and allowing just two earned runs.
  • Graduate leftfielder Emily Gagne (Portsmouth, N.H.) went two-for-four with a stolen base in game two, pulling to within one steal of her NEC single-season record of 26 she set just last year.
  • NEC sophomore second baseman Ashleigh Lemay (Derry, N.H.) went two-for-three in game two, including an RBI triple in the top of the second inning to plate sophomore right fielder Amaya Rodriguez (Indio, Calif.).
  • Freshman first baseman Abigail Grimes (Baltimore, Md.) had an RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning of game two, driving in sophomore catcher Emma Lopez (Downey, Calif.).
UP NEXT
  • NEC is back on the field on Wednesday when they travel to Norwich for a 1:00 p.m. GNAC double-header.
  • Simmons plays their next game at Regis on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
