Men’s Lacrosse Gets Back on Track Securing Road Win Against AMCATS

PAXTON, Mass.– The New England College men's lacrosse team finds their way back into the win column in their outing on the road from Caparso Field in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Wednesday in Paxton, Massachusetts.

THE BASICS
Score:  New England College 14, Anna Maria College 5
Records: Pilgrims 3-8, 2-4 GNAC | AMCATS 1-12, 0-7 GNAC

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The 'Grims came out in the first quarter firing on all cylinders from the very start as senior midfielder Thomas Doe (Windham, N.H.) came charging up the field completing the clear attempt for the team then passed things over to the NEC Pilgrim of the Month for March in junior attacker Henri Pfeifle (Darien, Conn.) who managed to find the cutting junior attacker Thomas Norton (Mansfield, Mass.) who slung into the back of the net just 15 yards out for the goal at 13:26.
  • At 11:07 the AMCATS commit a penalty that resulted into a 30 second man-up opportunity for the 'Grims that they ended up capitalizing on as it then shortly transitioned into a goal by the efforts of senior midfielder Joey Olsen (Mansfield, Mass.) that was fed to him by Norton giving the team early two goal lead.
  • Things didn't cease there as NEC continue to put the pressure on the AMCATS scoring yet another goal that came from none other than Pfeifle making it his 37th goal of the season thus far as Doe used his speed to advance up the field for another successful NEC clear where he found senior attacker Matt Daley (Plymouth, Mass.) who saw Pfeifle cutting to the inside of the crease that led to the junior dumping one into the back of the net.
  • NEC freshman midfielder Duncan Fleming (St. Paul, Minn.) has made great use of the minutes that he's been bestowed as of late tacking on a goal for himself that was assisted by Daley.
  • The quarter was wrapped by Pfeifle who scored the final goal of the quarter giving the 'Grims the five-goal lead in this one.
  • Things slowed down a touch for NEC in the second quarter as they allowed for AMC to score at 11:42 that was credited to junior Liam Bedenkop (Marson Mils, Mass.) but picked back up where they left off at for NEC as Pfeifle dodged from the outside of the field where he drove down into the crease for the shot that was no good that led to him scooping up a groundball resulting in burying the shot on the second attempt at 10:05.
  • Minutes later into the quarter at 8:08 Doe got into the mix of things with a goal of his own dodging from the right side of the midfield line all the way into the crease bouncing one into the back of the net to put the team up by six, 7-1.
  • Things continued to be in favor of the 'Grims as Fleming was delt the ball behind the net where he had the clear-cut view of the cutting Daley who appeared opened for a shot that turned into the goal score at 5:59. Just seconds later at 5:02 senior face-off specialist Evan Zonderman (Dracut, Mass.) received a pass from freshman defender Brody McGonigle (Concord, N.H.) then took things from there scoring the final goal of the quarter going into halftime with the lead, 9-2
  • The AMCATS jumped onto the scoreboard in the third quarter with the goal coming from junior Hank Gittines (Shrewsbury, N.J.).
  • NEC proceeded to pile on goals late in the third quarter of play at 6:45 scoring on the man-up opportunity as the 'Grims caused a turnover on an AMC clear attempt with the ball being passed over to Norton who quickly gave it away to senior midfielder Joey Olsen (Mansfield, Mass.) for the goal score.
  • The next goal would come in at 5:49 where Pfeifle displays his full arsenal of skills with him dodging from the backside of the net where he maneuvered into scoring positioned in impressive fashion rolling past the defenders for the goal.
  • With seconds remaining in the quarter Daley took matters into his own hands pump faking the goalie to him off guard that allowed for the goal to be scored to finish off the quarter with NEC still on top, 12-3.
  • AMC could only retaliate with two goals scored that couldn't amount to the additional two goals put in by NEC that assured their victory over the AMCATS on the evening, 14-5.
