Women’s Ice Hockey Routs Salem State on Senior Day

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's ice hockey team concluded their 2023-2024 season with a 6-2 victory over visiting Salem State University on Saturday afternoon at Lee Clement Arena in Henniker, New Hampshire in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • NEC freshman forward Alexis Hornsby (Atkinson, N.H.), already the Pilgrims' top scorer in a decade, opened the scoring with her 13th goal of the season 17:29 into the game. The star rookie, already a four-time NEHC Rookie of the Week honoree, finished the day with two goals and an assist. NEC sophomore forward Meadow Gilchrist's (Stamford, Conn.) goal 3:38 into the second period would prove to be the eventual game-winner.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC graduate goaltender Hannah Podvey (West Caldwell, N.J.), playing in the final game of her collegiate career, picked up the win in net, tallying 22 saves in net.
  • Salem State senior goaltender Kaia Hollingsworth (Methuen, Mass.) stopped 29 saves for the Vikings.
  • In addition to Hornsby and Gilchrist, the Pilgrims saw goals from graduate forward Cassie Kelly (Alexandria, Minn.), junior forward Becca Pouliot (Berlin, N.H.) and sophomore forward Kate Devlin (Walpole, Mass.).
SENIOR DAY
  • Prior to the game, the New England College women's ice hockey program and the NEC athletics department recognized this year's senior class as part of senior day. The class of Pouliot, senior forward AK Fuentes (Aspen, Colo.) and senior defender          Malin Ohlsson (Hollviken, Sweden) were honored by coaches, teammates, family members and fans for all of their accomplishments at NEC both on and off the field. Although their time with the program may be coming to an end, they will forever be a part of the 'Grims family.
