Third Quarter Surge sees Men’s Lacrosse Drop Rosemont; Clinch NCAAs

ROSEMONT, Penn. – The New England College men's lacrosse team won 19-11 at Rosemont College at the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) / New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Alliance Championship on Saturday afternoon at the Ravens Athletic Complex in Rosemont, Pennsylvania.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With NEC clinging to an 8-7 lead at halftime, the third quarter was a back and forth affair that saw four ties. But in the final two minutes of the quarter, the Pilgrims exploded with four consecutive goals, with two of those coming off the stick of junior attacker Matt Daley (Plymouth, Mass.). The game went into the final stanza with the 'Grims leading 15-11. NEC would keep the pressure on in the fourth and would never be challenged again.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC sophomore attacker Thomas Norton (Mansfield, Mass.) led the Pilgrims with seven goals on the day to go along with a team-high seven ground balls.
  • NEC senior midfielder Devon Saeger (Chester Springs, Penn.) found the back of the net five times.
  • Rosemont senior attacker Stephen McLaughlin (Bridgeport, N.J.) led the Ravens with four goals and seven ground balls.
  • Daley was a playmaker all-day finishing with four goals and a career-high eight assists.
  • NEC junior defenseman Gino Bonaventura (Peabody, Mass.) was a force on the defensive end, tallying three caused turnovers.
  • Rosemont graduate midfielder Mason Dennis (North Wales, Penn.) posted three goals and nine ground balls.
  • NEC sophomore goalie Connor Almstrom (Cumberland, R.I.), the 2023 NECC Defensive Player of the Year, finished with 11 stops in net.
UP NEXT
  • With the victory, NEC clinches a spot in the NCAA Championship Tournament. They will learn their fate during the selection show on Sunday at 9:00 p.m.
