HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College Athletics Department has named their Pilgrims of the Month for April of 2023, with senior centerfielder
Luca Giallongo (Mt. Shasta, Calif.) of the baseball team and freshman centerfielder / shortstop
Grace Giesler (La Mirada, Calif.) of the softball team recognized as standouts in the final POTM release of the year.
Grace Giesler, Softball
Giesler had an outstanding April, racking up 36 hits with 17 runs batted in, 21 runs scored, seven triples, five doubles and twelve stolen bases. At press time, Giesler had already set the NEC record for triples in a season and was tied for first in the nation with 11 triples.
"Grace has proven to be a force from day one and has not slowed down." Head coach
Ben Master said of his star rookie. "Grace performs with a workmanlike mindset, simply getting the job done. Most impressively, Grace carries herself with class and poise; characteristics that help her to achievements such as this."
Luca Giallongo, Baseball
Giallongo has posted a breakthrough senior season, as the leadoff hitter for the Pilgrims has posted 20 hits with ten RBI and eight stolen bases for NEC. Giallongo earned NECC Player of the Week honors for the week ending April 23
rd.
"Luca's been a spark plug for us as he's gotten going this month." Head coach
Terry Doyle. "The energy he supplies the team by getting on base and stealing bases has really helped us collect some important wins getting ready for the playoffs. As Luca goes, so go the 'Grims."
Both players are leading their respective teams into the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) playoffs this weekend.
Congratulations to Grace, Luca and all the Pilgrims of the Month for the 2022-2023 year!
