Men’s Lacrosse Loses Heart-Breaker at Castleton

CASTLETON, Vt. – The New England College men's lacrosse team lost 8-7 at Castleton University on Saturday afternoon in Castleton, Vermont.

TURNING POINT
  • Down 7-6 with less than two minutes left, the 'Grims tied it up when freshman long-stick midfielder Jackson Kain (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) found sophomore attacker Thomas Norton (Mansfield, Mass.) for his team-leading 15th goal of the season to tie it up at seven-all with 1:57 to go. But with 51 seconds remaining, Castleton senior midfielder Chris LaBonte (Essex Jct., Vt.) scored on an unassisted shot to ultimately give his team the win.  
TOP 'GRIMS
  • NEC senior attacker Sam Crary (Newburyport, Mass.) led the Pilgrims with a goal and two assists.
  • Senior midfielder Devon Saeger (Chester Springs, Penn.) posted two goals for NEC.
  • Sophomore goalie Connor Almstrom (Cumberland, R.I.) tallied 13 saves in net.
  • Kain posted six ground balls and four caused turnovers, both team-highs.
  • Junior midfielder Thomas Doe (Windham, N.H.) returned to the lineup and scored one goal with five ground balls.
  • Junior midfielder Joey Olsen (Mansfield, Mass.) scored his second goal of the season.
UP NEXT
  • NEC is back on the field next Sunday when they travel to Maine Maritime for a 12:00 p.m. game.
  • Castleton plays their next game at Norwich University on Thursday in a 7:00 p.m. game.
