HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College Athletics Department has named their Pilgrims of the Month for February of 2023.
Kathleen Rodriguez, Women's Basketball
Rodriguez, a junior-transfer forward from McFarlane, California, capped off an outstanding first season with the 'Grims, scoring 22 points with 15 rebounds and two steals in NEC's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) semifinal game at Eastern Nazarene College. Rodriguez was named to the NECC All-Tournament team for her performance. For the season, Rodriguez averaged 10.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while setting the school record in field goal percentage (63.0 percent), a mark that currently ranks her second in the nation.
"Kathy has been a wonderful addition to our women's basketball program." Coach Ledy said of her standout forward. "Not only is she one of the best "bigs" on the court, she is a great teammate. We are lucky to have her here at NEC!"
Alex Williams, Men's Basketball
Williams, a sophomore forward from Miramar, Florida, was arguably the Pilgrims' most consistent player this season, averaging 11.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Williams stepped up his game in the playoffs, and his 21 point, 12 rebound output kept NEC competitive in the championship finals. Williams was named to the NECC All-Tournament team, and combined with a stellar freshman class, the foundation of the team looks bright as they head to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) next season.
"Alex's play in February was significant in our team's run to the NECC championship game." Coach Mason said.
