Men's Lacrosse Loses to UNE in a Tough Battle in Sparks

SPARKS, Md. – The New England College men's lacrosse team took on the University of New England in a losing effort in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon at Tierney Field at US Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Maryland.

THE BASICS
Score: New England College 7, University of New England 14
Records: Pilgrims 0-5 | Nor'easters 4-3

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Pilgrims would start the game with a quick 1-0 lead with a goal from junior attackman Matt Daley (Plymouth, Mass.). UNE would come back with three of their own goals to bring the game to 3-1. NEC sophomore attackman Thomas Norton (Mansfield, Mass.) scored off a pass from freshman midfielder Nathan Hawkins (Salisbury, N.H.) to bring the game to 3-2. As the clock reached the final minute of the quarter, Nor'easter senior attackman Nikoli Markovich (Hopkinton, Mass.) would find the back of the net to extend UNE's lead to 4-2 before the short break.

  • Markovich would continue UNE's lead in the second quarter with his second goal, followed by two additional goals from teammates Colin Watt (Somers, Conn.) and Caleb Bowls (Denmark, Maine). Norton would find a pass from junior midfielder Thomas Doe (Windham, N.H.) for his second goal of the contest, but would be followed by a goal from Watt to close out the half with an 8-3 UNE lead.

  • NEC's Hawkins would score his first goal of the game to start the second half to give NEC some momentum. Possession for the ball would battle between the two New England sides throughout the third quarter, until an own goal by the Pilgrims would come in the Nor'easters' favor.

  • The University of New England would start off the fourth quarter with five-straight goals, including a man-up goal from junior midfielder Jordan White (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.), would extend UNE's lead to 14-4. NEC's senior midfielder Devon Saeger (Chester Springs, Penn.) would score back-to-back goals and was followed by Daley (assisted by Doe) to finish the game 14-7 score.
