Women’s Hoops Stymied by Mules at Colby Classic

WATERVILLE, Maine – The New England College women's basketball team lost 62-37 to Colby College on Saturday afternoon at the Margaret M. Crook Center in Waterville, Maine in their first game of the Colby Tip-Off Classic.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC senior guard Lara Matias (Long Beach, Calif.) scored a season-high 11 points to lead the Pilgrims, shooting four-of-seven from the floor and tallying a pair of steals in just 16 minutes off the bench.
  • Colby freshman guard Kate Olenik (Medfield, Mass.) led all scorers with 16 points to go along with five rebounds and three steals.
  • NEC senior guard Juliana Hernandez (McFarland, Calif.) finished with seven points while senior center Kathleen Rodriguez (McFarland, Calif.) pulled down a team-high five rebounds with four points.
  • Colby sophomore guard Chelsea Ibenegbu (Staten Island, N.Y.) added ten points and a game-high six boards for the Mules.
  • Poor shooting in the first half put the Pilgrims in a 34-13 hole at the break, and they were unable to close that gap in the second despite some solid play off the bench.

  • Up next for NEC, the team will play their second game at the Colby Classic on Sunday as they face off against the Terriers of Thomas College.
  • Colby will play Babson College for their Classic Championship in their next contest, that also coming on Sunday.
