BOXSCORE

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College men's ice hockey team played the number one team in the nation in visiting Hobart College on Friday evening in their first game back from their winter break, falling 3-0 at Lee Clement Arena in Henniker, New Hampshire in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

THE BASICS
Score:                    Hobart 3, New England College 0
Records:               Pilgrims 7-7-0, 4-4-0 NEHC | Statesmen 14-0-0, 7-0-0 NEHC
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first period, the Statesman capitalized on their first power-play opportunity of the game early in the second as graduate forward Zach Tyson (Dublin, Ohio) found the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season with just eight seconds left on the penalty clock, assisted by sophomore forward Matthew Iasenza (Montreal, Quebec) as Hobart went up 1-0 just 5:26 into the period.
  • In rapid succession, Hobart would add two more goals, scoring a total of three in the space of 1:25 before NEC could stop the bleeding. First year forward Ignat Belov (Minsk, Belarus) and sophomore forward Luke Aquaro (Yardley, Pa.) would score their sixth and tenth goals of the year respectively to give the Statesman a commanding 3-0 lead going into the final stanza. That would hold up for the final score.
  • NEC senior forward Hunter Hall (Boise, Idaho) led the 'Grims with four shots.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC senior goalie Andrew Kormos (Milford, Mich.), already a two-time NEHC Goaltender of the Week this season, tallied 41 saves between the pipes for the 'Grims.
  • Hobart first-year goalie Mavrick Goyer (Ste-Sophie, Quebec) finished with 20 stops.
  • Total team shots were 44-20 in favor of the Statesmen.
UP NEXT
  • Up next for NEC, the 'Grims have a quick turnaround as they play host to Elmira College on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
  • Hobart looks to continue their undefeated season on Saturday when they travel to Norwich University, that game also starting at 4:00 p.m.
