Vincent Scores in Overtime For Another Pilgrims Victory

  • FITCHBURG, Mass. - The New England College Field Hockey team were victorious in their 3 to 2 overtime victory against Fitchburg State University in their first road contest of the season at Elliot Field Athletic Complex. 
     

    THE BASICS 
    Score:                   New England College 3, Fitchburg State 2 
    Records:               Pilgrims 3-0 | Falcons 1-1 
     

    HOW IT HAPPENED 

    • In the first quarter, the Pilgrims outshot the Falcons 4 to 3, with a goal from senior Mikayla Vincent, assisted by sophomore Taylor Bailey, with 18 seconds remaining on the board. In the second quarter, FSU responded with two goals, from first-year Sophia Yates and senior Grace Kerr. 

    • In the third quarter, 'Grims would tie the game with an early goal from senior Neve Demarest in the eighth minute of the half. In the fourth, Fitchburg outshot NEC by seven, but graduate student goalkeeper Jackie Mountford would stop all six shots on net, with one going wide. 

    • As the game went into overtime, New England College would start out of the gate with ball and senior Drea Chin would find Vincent for the game winner, 
       

    INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

    • Mountford would record a season-high 13 saves in the contest. 

    • Vincent would tie her career high with two goals in a game for the first time since last season vs. Dean (9/4/2021). 

    • This is the first time the Pilgrims have started the season 3-0 since the 2008 season. 

     
    UP NEXT 

    • NEC will be back in action on Friday hosting Gordon at 7:00 pm. 

    • Fitchburg will travel to Plymouth State on Saturday for a 1:00 pm start.
