Field Hockey Comes Up Short At #12 MIT

Cambridge, Mass. – The New England College field hockey team lost 2-0 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) – the 12th ranked team in the nation – on Wednesday evening at Jack Barry Field in Cambridge, Massachusetts in non-conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After the game went into halftime scoreless, MIT senior forward Paige Forester (Glencoe, Ill.) scored two goals after the break, giving the Engineers the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • NEC graduate goalkeeper Jackie Mountford (New London, N.H.) produced one of the best performances of her career, tallying 12 saves and holding MIT scoreless for the first 33 minutes of the game.  
  • MIT senior goalkeeper Kiely Smiga-McManus (Etna, N.H.) recorded the shutout win.
  • The Engineers, the 12th-ranked team in the nation, outshot the Pilgrims, 26-1.
