HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a scoreless first half, the Pilgrims got on the board in the 34th minute when NEC senior midfielder Lilli McCormack (Dexter, Maine) served a penalty corner and immediately received the ball back from graduate defender Giuliana Kevlin (Laconia, N.H.) and scored for her first goal of the season as the hosts went ahead 1-0.
  • In the 39th minute, NEC senior forward Drea Chin (Laconia, N.H.) broke through the defense for her third goal of the season on an unassisted shot to give the 'Grims a two-goal advantage.
  • Castleton got on the board with 1:55 left in the third as senior forward Kaitlin Bardellini (Northfield, N.H.) scored her seventh goal of the season, taking a pass from junior forward Emily Harris (Crondall, England) off a short cross and finishing to cut the deficit to 2-1.
  • In the 52nd minute, Harris found freshman forward Amelie Steinel (Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) for the tying goal, ultimately sending the game into overtime.
  • With 3:34 left in the first overtime, Bardellini would find the back of the net for the golden goal, winning it for the Spartans.
