HOW IT HAPPENED
Southern Maine controlled play in the early portion of the first period, but with 13 seconds remaining in the frame, Jhuwon Davis got New England College on the board. Mattias Thorén found David Novotny with a breakout pass, who then passed the puck across the slot finding the stick of Davis who buried the shot. USM outshot the Pilgrims 22-16 in the opening 20 minutes.
NEC doubled their lead in the beginning second period. Novotny was able to one-time a shot past the Huskies netminder off the drop pass from Trevor Momot, at the 4:58 marker. Just over a minute later, Anthony Cinato scored his fourth goal of the year, as he scored off the feed by Chris Lee. 51 seconds later, Novotny scored on a breakaway. Through two periods, USM continued to outshoot the Pilgrims 46-33
In the third period, the Pilgrims continued to pile it on, as Tim Lopez, Brenden White, and Alex LaPlante all recorded scores.
