Women's Rugby Splits with Manhattanville in Season Closer

HENNIKER, N.H. - The New England College women's rugby team split with Manhattanville College in two sevens matches in NIRA Division III action at Jay Gardner Field on Sunday afternoon. 

THE BASICS 
Score:         Manhattanville 19, New England 17 | Manhattanville 12, New England 27 
Records:               Valiants 4-5-0 | Pilgrims 2-4-0 
 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

Match 1 

  • The Pilgrims would open early in the first half with a try from junior Ari Hamilton (Boston, Mass.) followed by an additional try from junior Bree Vidal (Boston, Mass.) with a conversion from sophomore Rebecca Eaton (Hebron, Conn.). The Valiants would add a try from first year Sydney Natale (Greenwich, Conn.), but the 'Grims would go into the half with a 12-5 lead. 

  • Manhattanville would come back to gain the lead from tries from first year Kesai Bulter (White Plains, N.Y.) and Natale and Butler converting both. Sophomore Kayla Doan (Shrewsbury, Mass.) would score her first collegiate try as the clock expired ending with a final score of 19-17 in the Valiants favor. 

Match 2 

  • The first half of the second match would go back and forth, with a pair of tries from Vidal and Eaton, with a conversion from Eaton on Vidal's try, for NEC, and a pair from senior Tomoka Asakuma (Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan) and Natale, with a conversion from Butler for Manhattanville, with a 12-12 halftime score. 

  • The Pilgrims would gain the with a try from Hamilton and a pair of additional tires from Vidal, to wrap up the match with a 27-12 final in the favor of New England College.

  • This was the final match of the season for New England College.
