Tom Carroll

Tom Carroll has been the head coach of the New England College men's ice hockey hockey team since the the 2002-2003 season, leading the team to unprecedented success in that time, including twenty postseason appearances with an NCAA Tournament bid and a trip to the NCAA Semifinals in 2005. Carroll's 299 wins are the most in program history.

Coach Carroll has coach five ACHA All-Americans, three Conference Goaltenders of the Year, and four Conference Rookies of the Year. 
In 2019, Carroll's Pilgrims set a program record with a 16 game unbeaten streak. His 2002-2003 squad tied a program-best with 20 wins and set the program mark for the highest single-season winning percentage at .769. Carroll has been inducted into both the New Hampshire Legends of Hockey Hall of Fame and the Edina (MN) Hall of Fame. Carroll was named runner-up for the AHCA National Coach of the Year in 2005.

An active member of the hockey community, Carroll has coached in the USA Hockey Development program for several years, and authored and published Hockey’s Greatest Drills for Great Practices, a popular coaching manual for all levels of hockey.

Prior to joining NEC, Carroll served as head coach and general manager of the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL.  With the Bucs, he led his team to the USHL semifinals, set coaching records for wins, and was selected as the USHL Select Team All-Star Coach. He recruited and coached 11 players who were selected in the NHL draft, one USHL Player of the Year, one USHL Rookie of the year, and one eventual Hobey Baker winner. Before Des Moines, Carroll spent several seasons as the top assistant coach at the University of Notre Dame. While at Notre Dame he recruited and coached 19 NHL Draft picks, six players who participated in the World Junior Championships as well as Academic and Athletic All-Americans, CCHA League award winners including Rookie of the Year. Carroll began his coaching career at Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana.

Carroll earned his Master’s Degree from the Mendoza School of Business at the University of Notre Dame and his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin. While at Wisconsin, Carroll participated in three Frozen Fours including two NCAA Division I National Championship teams and one runner-up under legendary coaches Bob Johnson and Jeff Sauer. He also participated in the Badger baseball program.Â
