Geoff Hassard joined the NEC Athletics Department in October of 2023.  Hassard returned to the New England area after retiring from SUNY Oneonta where he spent 23 years as the Sports Information Director, including the final 14 years with added responsibilities as the Assistant Athletic Director.  Overall, he has 30 years of experience in collegiate athletics, all at the NCAA Division III level.

Hassard is responsible for internal operations for the athletics department at NEC, which includes facility scheduling, game operations, scheduling and game contracts while working with game officials assigners.  He oversees the process of hiring and scheduling of student workers for all home athletic events and has supervisory responsibilities for assigned department staff.

While at Oneonta, Hassard was responsible for the entire athletics communications operation while serving as part of the senior leadership team within the athletics department.  His day-to-day responsibilities involved all aspects of media relations, recording sport statistics, maintenance of the department’s website, compiling and maintaining historical data, content creator for the department’s social media channels, and oversight of a full-time Associate and student interns.
Hassard still serves as the Chair of the Hall of Fame Committee and is the MC for the event while continuing to update all of the record books.

Before his time at Oneonta, Hassard served as the Director of Sports Information at WPI from 1994-99.  While there, he handled media relations and game day statistics for all the varsity teams while developing the athletics department’s first website on the world wide web, which was also one of the first in Div. III.

Throughout his career in athletics communications, Hassard served in various leadership roles for both his regional and national professional associations.  He served on the Executive Board of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America – now College Sports Communicators) for a three-year term as the representative from the Northeast Region.  He also served on the Executive Board of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Sports Information Directors Association – now EAST-COMM – culminating with his Presidency in 2012-13.

For his continuing excellence and contributions in athletics communications at the Div. III level, Hassard was the recipient of the ECAC-SIDA Irving T. Marsh Award in 2014.  In June 2026, he was honored once again by the organization as the recipient of the Pete Nevins Award for Distinguished Acievement.

Upon his retirement from SUNY Oneonta in July of 2022, the athletics department honored Hassard by creating “The Geoff Hassard Commitment Award” which is bestowed annually to a deserving student athlete for their commitment, loyalty and service to their team, the department of athletics and the college community.
Prior to, and while a resident of Oneonta, Hassard spent many years coaching youth, high school and college sports as a volunteer and paid assistant in various sports.

Hassard grew up in Stoneham, Mass. and attended Bridgewater State University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education earning his teacher certification for grades 5-12 in 1989.  Hassard then studied at Springfield College earning a Master of Education degree concentrating in Athletic Administration.

Hassard and his wife Irene currently reside in nearby Hillsborough.
