Frost Takes Third as Men’s Wrestling Competes at NCAA Regionals

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The New England College men's wrestling team competed at the NCAA Regionals hosted by Wesleyan University at the Bacon Field House in Middletown, Connecticut on Saturday and Sunday.

NEC junior Caden Frost (Steep Falls, Maine) reached the quarterfinals of the 133-pound bracket with a brilliant 0:32 win by fall in the opening round. He would ultimately finish 4-2 for the tournament, winning a 10-6 decision in the second round of the consolation bracket before 2-1 on Sunday, winning by fall (2:17) and decision (8-6) before prevailing in the third-place match in a 10-4 decision.
NEC junior Zach Soda (Burlington, Mass.) had a brilliant run in the 157-pound bracket, going 2-0 on Saturday with a technical fall (4:49) win in the opening round and a 10-2 major decision in the second. In the semifinals on Sunday, Soda came up short in a 6-1 decision, before going 0-2 in the consolation bracket, finishing in sixth place.
NEC senior Boburjon Berdiyorov (Tashkent, Uzbekistan), competing in the 141-pound championship, picked up a 12-1 major decision in the first round before falling just short in the quarter-finals in a 10-9 decision. In the second round of the consolation bracket, the senior picked up a win by technical fall in 5:52. On Sunday, Berdiyorov would come up short in the third round of consolation action, ending his tournament in seventh place.
Competing in the 149-pound bracket, NEC sophomore Michael Follo (Derry, N.H.) overcame a loss in the opening round to win a 21-7 major decision in the consolation bracket. A loss in the next round would end his run.
NEC freshman Dominic Gangi (Methuen, Mass.) went 1-2 on Saturday in the 125-pound bracket, recovering from a loss in the opening round to take a 2:39 victory by fall in the first round of the consolation bracket. The rookie's season would end in the second round of the consolation bracket.
NEC junior Josh Bean (Londonderry, N.H.) went 0-2 in the 184-pound bracket.
NEC sophomore Andrew Piedrahita (Westford, Mass.) went 0-2 in the 165-pound bracket.
NEC freshman Dominic DeMaio (Methuen, Mass.) finished 0-2 in the 174-pound bracket.

NEC now awaits official word of their participation at the NCAA Championships to be held on March 14^th to the 15^th.
