Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

McBain, Bowman Lead Women’s Soccer Past Mitchell on Senior Day

HENNIKER, N.H. - The New England College women's soccer team earned their fourth win of the season and first in conference play with a 4-2 victory over Mitchell College on senior day on Friday afternoon.

The team came out of the gates firing on senior day, taking four shots in the first six minutes of the game. In the 7th minute, the team's fifth shot turned into the 'Grims first goal of the day; Graduate Shelby McBain (Indianhead, Md.) sent in a corner kick to sophomore Madison Bowman (Coventry, Vt.) who used a header to put NEC on top with her second goal of the season.

Just two minutes later, the Pilgrims' fiery start continued as they converted on another McBain corner kick in the 9th minute. Freshman Estrella Michaelidis (Dedham, Mass.) used another header to give the 'Grims a 2-0 advantage while McBain was credited with her second assist of the first half.

With just 32 seconds left in the first half, the Mariners would cut the deficit in half with a score of their own on a Mitchell corner kick to send a 2-1 game into the halftime break.

In the 56th minute, McBain once again took a Pilgrims corner kick and once again found Bowman who high-pointed the cross and headed it into the back of the net for her second goal of the game. The assist was McBain's third of the game, one away from tying the program record.

After the Mariners got a goal back in the 69th minute, the Pilgrims were able to grow their lead back to two in the 73rd minute as senior Mia Loewenberg (Milford, Conn.) converted on a penalty kick to seal the 4-2 win.

Senior Hollie Bomba (Seymour, Conn.) earned her fourth win of the season in net for the Pilgrims. She was honored pregame as part of the team's senior day ceremony alongside McBain, senior Cailin Lennan (Spotswood, N.J.), senior Isabella MacGregor (Ottawa, Ont.), senior Riley Vachon (Laconia, N.H.), senior Isyss Scott (Bakersfield, Calif.), and senior Neiliana Lebron (Roslindale, Mass.).

Fresh off their fall festival win, the Pilgrims will play their next game at home against Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
