NEC Baseball Closes Season with Split

Henniker, N.H. – New England College baseball closed out their 2010 campaign splitting a non-conference double-header with the visiting Plymouth State University Panthers Tuesday afternoon in Henniker. The Pilgrims would edge the Panthers 4-3 in game one but Plymouth would battle back to grab the 6-5 game two victory.
With the split the Pilgrims finish their season with an overall record of 9-29. The Panthers move to 9-27 on the season.
In game one the Pilgrims would plate two runs in the third thanks to a Jimmy Lauzon (Manchester, N.H.) two-run double and tack on a run in the fourth grabbing the early 3-0 lead. The Panthers would respond with three runs in the fifth highlighted by a two-run homerun by Bryant Lausberg (Somersworth, N.H.) knotting the game at 3-3.
NEC would break the tie in the home half of the sixth as Chris Gagne (Rochester, N.H.) would open the inning with a walk followed by a Lucas Burgess (Bath, N.H.) single as Gagne would eventually come around to score on a Panther throwing error. NEC’s Chris Wallace (Manchester, N.H.) would capture the win on the mound for the Pilgrims allowing two earned runs on seven hits.
Leading the way for NEC was Jimmy Lauzon who doubled in two runs and Chris Gagne who scored twice for the Pilgrims. Plymouth’s Matt Koban (Bradford, N.H.) finished with two hits and Bryant Lausberg drove in two runs for the Panthers.
In game two the Pilgrims would carry the 5-1 lead heading into the top of the seventh. NEC would grab two outs early but Plymouth would string together three singles by Justin Campo (Londonderry, N.H.), Marcus Joyce (Scituate, Mass.) and Brendan Cosgrove (Merrimack, N.H.) to load the bases for Steve Beard. Beard would capitalize unloading a grand slam with two outs tying the game at 5-5. Plymouth would then grab the 6-5 lead as Joe Eramo (Shirley, Mass.) would single and come around to score on two Pilgrim throwing errors.
Plymouth’s Joe Eramo, Steve Beard and Marcus Joyce each finished the game with three hits. Leading the way for NEC as Chris Gagne and Donovan Funk who each singled twice and scored a run.
