Quincy, Mass.  The Eastern Nazarene lady softball team fell twice to the New England College Pilgrims today on Quincy, Mass. Paegent Field in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) double header.  The visitors took game one by the score of 14-4 and game two 10-2 as they combine for 31 hits and improved their record to 9-17 / 8-8 in the TCCC, while the Lions fell to 3-23 / 2-16 in the TCCC.

The Pilgrims came out in the first inning playing small ball as they bunted and singled their way on, and around, the bases.  A Lion error, with two out and the score at 0-0 up to this point, extended the Pilgrims at bat allowing five runs to cross the plate in this five-hit inning.

Pilgrims Teraysa White (Belgrade, ME) started the second inning the same way with a bunt single before teammate Rachel White (Arlington, Mass.)  homered over the center field fence to extend the lead to 7-0.

The Lions responded in the bottom half of the second as Hannah Moore (Sheridan, Calif.) hit a hard grounder to the left side of the infield and beat the throw to first.  LeAnn Abbot (Sumner, ME) then singled on as Moore took third base.  The Lions pushed a run across the plate as Christine Tucker (Oakland, Calif.) RBI singled to right field for Moore to tag home plate to make the score 7-1.

The Lions picked up two more when Laura Giberson (Hingham, Mass.) singled to right and clean-up hitter Amber Burns (Fall River, Mass.) did her job, as she homered over the left-center field fence to pull to within four as the Lions would trail 7-3.

The Pilgrims T. White took advantage of another Lion error which placed her on first.  White then stole second base, advanced to third on a ground out and then took home plate by a fielder's choice to make the score 8-3.

In the top of the fifth, the Pilgrims broke the game open as five singles and two doubles added six more runs before the inning would end, making the score 14-3.

The Lions added one in the bottom of the inning as Bethany Greenfield (Parsippany, NJ) doubled on and Stephanie Pestilli (Norwell, Mass.) reached first on an overthrow, allowing Greenfield to score.  But a double play stymied the  growing rally and the game ended 14-4 after five innings.

Standouts at the plate included Pilgrims Teraysa White who went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI's and 3 runs scored.  Megan McDevitt (Newport, NH) went 3 for 4 with a RBI and run scored.  Rachel White 3 for 4 with 3 RBI's and 3 runs scored and teammate Meghan Beausoleil went 3 for 3.

The Lions Amber Burns went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI's and a run scored.

On the mound NEC's Bethany Forshaw (Waterford, Conn.) threw 5 innings, giving up 6 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5, as she allowed 3 earned runs.   ENC's  Jamie Block (Pembroke, Mass.) allowed 16 hits over 5 innings, struck out 3 and walked none as she gave up 8 earned runs on the game.

The Pilgrims opened game two with two runs in the first, a single by lead-off batter T. White and two doubles  (R. White and  Alyssa Hoot (Waterville,  OH) .  But the Lions answered in the bottom of the inning as Greenfield singled, reached third on a passed ball then a ground out, and then crossed home on an Amber Burns single.  Burns then reached third and was hit home by Jamie Block  (Pembroke, Mass.) to tie the game at 2-2.

In the third the Pilgrims had a two out rally that brought in four runs, as Hoot doubled and scored on over thrown ball to first to give the visitors the lead once again, 3-2.  Then with two runners on Jami Monahan (Saugus, Mass.) hit a 3 run home run over the left-center field fence to take the 6-2 lead.

The Pilgrims plated four more runs in the fourth as Gabrielle Tims (Clark Summit, PA) RBI singled to right field and then Kristen Purdy (Candia, NH) hit the Pilgrims third home run of the day to make the score 10-2 as the visitors went on to win by that margin after the fifth inning.

For New England College, Rachel White went 3 for 4 with a RBI and run scored as teammates Meghan Beausoleil (New Hope, PA) went 2 for 2 with a walk, Kristen Purdy 3 for 4 with 4 RBI's and 2 runs scored, and Jami Monahan 3 for 3 with 3 RBI's and a run scored.

Eastern Nazarene's Amber Burns went 1 for 2 with a RBI and a run scored.

On the mound, the Pilgrims Gabrielle Timms threw a 4 hitter over 5 innings while striking out 5 and walking 4.  The Lions Jamie Block gave up 15 hits over 5 and allowed only 2 earned runs.
